User switching doesn't work properly in macOS Sequoia

When two users are logged in to the same macbook, when you wake the mac from sleep, and you want to login with the other user, you can't enter the password, it switches back immediately .

This is not always the case however, sometimes it works.

After a restart it works again for a while.

this also was a problem in MAC OS Sonoma, and now again in Sequoia.

Please advise.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.0

I have a brand new M3 Macbook Air, purchased earlier this month. It came with Sonoma installed and I saw this same login problem. I hoped that the upgrade to Sequoia would fix it since I thought that surely Apple would not leave such a completely broken basic feature as not being able to switch between logged in users open as a bug while upgrading the OS. But sure enough it is still broken in exactly the same way. If I have two or more people logged in when I go to the lock screen, the most recent person logged in always grabs the focus. I can select a different avatar but it instantly reverts to the most recent logged in avatar. At that point I have only two options: either find that person if they are currently at home in the house and get them to log in so that I can log them out, or, power down the machine....

I haven't seen this problem with either Sonoma or Sequoia. The fact that you're seeing it across two different versions of macOS would lead me to believe the problem is not with the OS but with your specific machine or set up.

The first thing I'd suggest you try is rebooting the computer in Safe Mode.

Note that this is a troubleshooting step. No one is expecting you to work in Safe Mode.

Think, once you are logged in with one user and your Mac goes in sleep mode and when you wake up the Mac you are not restarting the Mac just restarting the last logged sesión which is the use you were logged before the Mac go to sleep mode , that’s not a error or bug , to switch user you must log out from the first user you was using
