Siri not responding on iPhone 16 Pro Max

As title says, Siri is not working. It only works if I press the side button, not by me saying "hey siri" etc.

I have turned siri off and back on again and done the 5 phrases to set it up and still nothing. I have changed the language, changed the voice, changed to prefer spoken response' and still nothing.

Obviously on IOS18.

Has anyone else had this issue because it is driving me mad. £1,400 for a phone and it doesn't work properly!

This is happening to mine and my partners iPhone 16! It is soooooooo frustrating especially when you’re driving and the phone is unresponsive. I’ve been in contact with apple twice about it and they can’t fix it - but clearly unaware there is a problem

APPLE please fix this soon! I didn’t expect to spend thousands on a phone and then it not work… my iPhone 11 worked better!!!!

Same here. I am on IPhone 16. I was excited about Apple intelligence and Siri, but Siri doesn’t respond to requests. It says hmmm when I say hey siri, but doesn’t do any thing request like set a timer, or call John. It is really frustrating in car, as I don’t want to hold phone or press side button. Even with Apple CarPlay Siri is not responding to simple request like play song, call mum etc. it’s new phone and it’s expensive and Apple intelligence is meant to be thing, but this version of Siri seems much worse than generation 1 Siri!!!

You’re completely right bro there should be no complications like this with the phone. It cost this much. Why would it not perform to the best power abilities? I don’t understand either but I’m going through the same complications with Siri on the iPhone 16 Pro Max because I have a 12 Pro response with Siri just fine like it’s been bothering me here lately too because it’s bs. That phone was $1700.

I had the same issues. Tried most fixes, they didn't work. I was about to take the phone to Apple store but my husband rather patronisingly asked me to disable Siri and then enabled it. When I enabled it, I had to go through the setting up Siri process like you do when you first enable Siri on a new phone (speaking those phrases to siri out loud). After that Siri has worked hands free without the side button. It is also worth noting I had updated my software to 18.2 so I have the new Siri with chat gpt function now.

My iPhone 16 pro max wasn’t letting me to speak to Siri and I only got it for Christmas but now since I’ve powered it off and turned it back on and went onto settings > Apple intelligence & Siri > Talk & type to Siri it could be off and if it is turn it onto “ Siri “ or “ hey siri “ the u go press off again then the “ Siri “ or “ hey Siri” again then u will do the speaking thing and then u can finally speak to Siri again

It's so bad I'm embarressed for Apple. The majority of the time Siri just outright ignores me, especially if I'm asking where it is to locate the phone, or if the phone is in my pocket. Just absolutely refuses to respond. When I do manage to ask it a question, something basic, half the time it lags saying it can't connect to the internet or it outright gets the answer wrong after saying it's going to use ChatGPT. I have no idea how a company as big as Apple can make something progressively worse to the point of it being this bad, release it to the public and people still stay in a job? Fire the morons doing this and get people in who can? £1500 for a phone that doesn't have basic voice functionality anymore. Garbage.
