CarPlay not working with iPhone 16 Pro
I upgraded my iPhone 12 Pro to a 16 Pro, and the new phone will not connect to my 2018 Mazda CX-5 with CarPlay. When I plug it in, it charges but makes no sign of connecting.

So…same problem. My new iPhone 16 pro charges via cable to my 2019 Nissan qashqai but won’t connect to car play. But I left it plugged in to the car and found that after 3-4 minutes, it actually finds the connection! It drove me mad, tried different cables, resetting, everything. But after a little time, they find each other and work fine together. No idea why!
This worked and will probably work for most of you. It wasn’t data transfer cable. it wasn’t content and privacy restrictions. I had to follow the steps outlined above in that order. I plugged phone in, got popup on phone about allowing carplay, and approved and then I had carplay. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
I had the same problem: IPhone 16 in a Sienna 16. The issue is the cable, nothing else. I switched to one that can transfer data, not just charge the phone, and it worked, after also turning on „Apple Intelligence and Siri“ in Settings ( really? I just want to see the Google map on my display, not be exposed by that dumb „Apple Intelligence“. Didn’t see a way to do it without it. Sigh. )
iPhone and Sienna 2021: it ONLY works via cable, connected to the USB slot right of the steering wheel. It needs to be a cable that can transmit data, not just charge. On the display, press menu -> setup -> projection settings -> Apple CarPlay: switch to On. This disables Bluetooth ( fine, you are connected via cable ). On your IPhone under Settings, you may need to turn on “Apple Intelligence and Siri” ( why?? I don’t want it! ), perhaps turn off privacy settings and/or turn on CarPlay. Good luck.
Had same issue with my brand new iPhone 16 pro in my carplay enabled 2016 Skoda Octavia. Worked perfectly with my iPhone 11. But couldn’t connect with my new phone. Solved it today by buying the Apple USB-C to Lightning adapter (€35). Connected immediately!
In order to get my iPhone 16 pro connected to CarPlay I had to click on "forget phone" for every phone that had ever connected to my CarPlay. Once I did that it connected without issue.
ITS THE CABLE! Needs to be a USB to USB-C cable that does DATA as well as recharges.
I had the same and have managed to resolve it by trying a different cable. It seems some USB to USB-C are charge-capable only. If you have only just switched from a lightning type iPhone to the 16 which is obviously now USB-C, you may not have experienced this issue before now, but CarPlay requires a data-capable cable. The likelihood is it is not your phone or your car that is the problem! Also check your content and privacy settings to ensure CarPlay is enabled. Good luck 🤞
Changed cable on mine to a data and charging cable. Car play now works. Spend 3 hrs on phone to apple support. Then found this suggestion on this group
After spending close to 4 hours over 2 days updating software, resetting networks and alll the other hoops customer care has you do on day 3 I call and the tech asked if I tried a different cable and I replied 3 different cables he then asked were any of the ones I was using an OEM cable I said not. Let’s try a OEM cable so I go grab a OEM cable and Shazam it works. The new question is do I need OEM cables for everything😡
I had a similar issue. I found that I had to use native USB connections. I tried an adapter that was rated for data and was supposed to work. It failed. I ended up purchasing a cable that had usb A and usb C connections rated for all connections. I got some from Anker and Belkin and all have worked flawlessly since.
I had exactly the same issue. As soon as I changed to a USBC- A cable that supported data (rather than just charging) it worked straight away.
Purchased the Belkin braided USB-A to USB-C cable as recommended in this thread and CarPlay worked immediately. Thanks you guys!
Get a CarPlay cable from Amazon, they are made for IPhone 15 and 16.
I had the same problem on Mazda 2019 bp. iPhone 15 worked on a data cable (non-original), but not iPhone 16. Okay…I tried: 1) Turn on/off privacy. Restart the device, forget the device. Didn't help me. 2) I went to the settings of the auto-connection settings - Smartphone connection settings - Car play settings. And I saw that the new device SE Milord 16 - always off. I clicked next - connection status - always on. And yes!!! It worked. From Ru with love.
P.s I have no idea why the photo loaded like that, although I took it in the normal position.
