Hi, will I be able to use the USB-C version of the Airpod Max in wired mode? Is it only a software issue that this currently doesn't work, and thus a firmware update is what is needed, or is this feature from the previous model no longer possible? Appreciate your time, thanks.

I very much hope this is possible. Not being able to connect my Airpods to my Mac with a USB-C cable is the one thing that prevents me from recomennding the Airpods Max, I'm not an expert by any means, but a digital connection is a digital connection, This feels like an arificial limitation.
