Why are my HomePods not syncing with Apple Music?

I’ve seen a lot of people having troubles with ios18 and Apple Music. No one talk about playing on different HomePods and controlling them with the Apple Music App. They don’t sync or if they do, one stops in a while. You cannot tell your room HomePod to follow the music to another HomePod as they seem can’t find each other.

yes, similar. I can (apple music or classical) start a tune, switch output to the homepod (several tried, all version 18). after 4-5 seconds (after play button starts the music), the output switches back to the iphone (or to my bets flex earbuds, connected to the iphone). This does NOT happen with the iPad, ios 18 (3rd generation iPad Pro). On my iphone, pulling up the screento switch, the available devices to switch to are separated by a box-spearation -- above the line, my iphone and the beatrs flex (when connected). Below the line, all my homepods, apple tv, etc.. Those beneath the line are the ones that cannot hold the stream.

Incidentally, this is a CONTROL CENTER problem -- (I think) if I switch the stream to the homepod by holding the phone close to it, the stream stick to the homepod. But, not if I select the homepod via the control panel.

iphone 13 pro Max, ios 18, etc.

I’m having the same problem. I like to listen to podcasts when I go to bed, and since the iOS 18 update, half the time I listen through my iPhone speakers because AirPlay to the HomePod mini fails (reverts back to the phone after 10-20 seconds) or shows as playing, but no sound is coming out of the HomePod.

One thing that I discovered a while ago that may be affecting the OP is that two HomePods in a stereo pair have to be on the same network in order to function properly. Seems like a no-brainer, but Apple overlooked this simple check, at least in previous homeOS versions. I had a situation where one HomePod in the pair was joining the 2.4 G network, and the other was joining the 5G network, and I was constantly losing the pairing. I had the impression that HomeKit was “helpfully” letting devices try to log onto the 5G network. Partially my fault, I had both networks set up with the same name and password. Fixed now...
