Calculator doesn’t keep memory in iOS 18

I’ve just upgraded my iPhone 15 pro to iOS 18 and have noticed an annoying change with the calculator.

Previously when you had a number in the memory when to closed the app the number remained in the memory so when you pressed MR it reappeared.

Now, when you the close the app the memory clears when the app is closed down.

Is this intentional or is there a workaround?
