Why does my AirPods Pro Transparency Mode keep turning off?

What is your AirPod Pro version? Mine is 17B13d. I think that matters. (?)

I literally have this same problem ! An agent suggested me to have my AirPods Pro (Gen 2) serviced an Apple Store or authorized retailer, but I’m like… this issues didn’t happen until I updated to iOS 18. What’s more my AirPods keep disconnecting a lot every few minutes for no reason.

the Same is happening to me now with Pro2, and it used to happen with the Pro1 a year ago and then out of nowhere it worked fine on the Pro1..

i guess its IOS related, two airpods and two iphones (iphone 15 pro now and iphone 13 pro back then) and still the issue managed to be replicated.

Resetting the Airpods did not help ..

Just updated to IOS 18 hoping some of the transparency drop-out problems would go away and to take advantage of the advertised hearing aid enhancements. Transparency seemed to have worked at first after the update for a few minutes but then turned off and nothing I do can seem to get it to work again. I am very dissatisfied with Apple with regard to transparency mode. It seems to get no support from Apple at all yet they have made a big deal about hearing aid enhancements in IOS 18. The developers should be forced to have a set of AirPod Pro 2's glued into their ears and set to transparency mode all day long until these problems get fixed.

WHY IS NOBODY AT APPLE LISTENING TO THESE PROBLEMS? Oh..., I guess they can't hear because transparency isn't working in their customer feedback and bug reporting systems or they plainly just don't care.

One clue to this problem is that every time my Apple Watch registers a new hour, the custom transparency mode switches off. The watch seems to send a signal that triggers the switch. Possibly other activities on the watch or iPhone are doing the same thing.

Yes! After a year of this ongoing problem I’m thinking that it’s something to do with the connection to my Apple Watch too. Possibly a problem with handoff, but turning handoff off on the Apple Watch renders it pretty useless.

Apple really need to sort out how their devices work together - it doesn’t “just work”

@Rob354 Several times per day? You are very lucky, mine a few dozen times per day. Before iOS 18.01, Airpods Pro 2 finally worked flawlessly for several months. (It was the same issue 6 months ago with iOPS17)

Now that the FDA has approved APP as a hearing aid, I wonder if the development team will address the issue seriously.

Just came back to Iphone after years of Android, picked up 16 Pro Max, Airpods Pro 2, and the Ultra 2 watch. The main reason I bought the Airpods pro was for the "hearing aid" feature through Custom Transparency. I too am having this problem, I turn on transparency and it turns off within 2-5 seconds. As I'm within my return period I plan on returning them by next weekend if I don't discover a solution.

What I can't believe is I've seen threads as far back as 2022 complaining about this and Apple still hasn't fixed this? That's astonishing to me, especially when they've gone to the trouble of marketing these Airpods pro 2 as being hearing aids.

Unless I'm missing something about the hearing aid part these things are duds.

I'm the same as you, however after 18.1 now transparency mode has been ruined and can't work as a hearing aid at all.. And I live in the UK where we don't have access to the hearing aids functionality, so apple messed it up big time on us, literally no way to use the airpods pro for assistance to my hearing as I did a month ago

Yes! I have had this exact same issue for few months now. It used to be really good for walking in the city I could hear the cars coming and so on, but now I have trouble hearing anything. Really a bummer.

I went through 3 Genius Bar appointments and they still cannot figure out the problem, I did a factory reset and start as a brand new phone and still the issue persists and even with replacement AirPods , case and all and still custom transparency mode keeps turning off 😞

I purchased mine in London at Christmas and posted here about all of these issues that are listed. Indid everything that was suggested,

as soon as I got back to California in January, they work perfectly, even the hearing aid too. Transparency works. So it must be location based.

I am on my 5th pair of AirPods Pro, always replaced due to failure of Transparency Mode.

Please refer to my earlier comments regarding settings changes that seemed to improve Transparency Mode’s function.
