iMessages deleting on all devices

After updating my iPhone 15 Pro Max to ios18, I can no longer delete messages on my watch without also deleting on my phone. I purposefully wanted to delete certain messages from my watch that I wanted to keep on my phone. Do I need to turn messages off on iCloud for my watch? Any ideas?

I'm having the same issue. Contacted support and tried all different settings, unpairing iWatch etc. I also have messages on my iPhone turned off in iCloud. I was then sent to a specialist at Apple and was told this is how it was suppose to work from the beginning if you are signed into your iCloud account on all your devices. I do not believe this, especially if you have messages turned off for iCloud. I hope to contact support again to see if this is correct.
