Albums missing or moving in iOS 18 photos app
I keep my created albums in alphabetical order, since updating to IOS 18 they do not stay in order even after editing. Anyone else having issues?

I finally found the fix that works, in fact once you get used to it I am finding it easier than the old setup although I do still wish they would sort new photos to the top and let you choose to put the From My Mac (PC users don't let that throw you, you'll still be using that section), and Pinned Collections at the top rather than the bottom but at least the phone remembers where you were as I will explain later. So things are back in folders and I can easily find things now...
Here are the steps;
Your photos and videos should now be arranged back in the folders the way you had them ordered on your PC or Mac when you load the photo app and scroll to the bottom. All your folders will appear under the From My Mac section, Videos should be in Videos in the Videos window under Pinned Collections, and when you take new photos on your phone they will appear in the Recently Saved window. As you delete things they will show up in the Recenely Deleted window and if you choose to hide any files they will be in the Hidden window which needs a Password or face ID to open, same as the recently deleted.
It seems odd they made new photos appear at the bottom of the Library and YES, That massive collection of photos will still appear when you open photos but I discovered iOS 18 does REMEMBER where you was in the collection, even if you closed photos by swiping up or have restarted the phone, So if you've scrolled all the way to the bottom where your new photos will appear, along with your From My Mac and Pinned Collections and leave it there, then the next time you open it then it will still be there and you will not have to scroll thrugh all of your photos to get back to the bottom of the list each time you open Photos.
Hope this helps!
You mean when you sync with iCloud?
They should go back after you have sync'ed the phone with iCloud again after you've done the iTunes part. Mine did and are even in the same albums as on the phone itself now. If you log into iCloud I think there is (at least used to be, haven't looked lately) also a place in albums where you can click to choose to update iTunes with data from the phone during next sync. But I admit it's been awhile since I used that so don't know if they changed that option.
That's really odd, it worked so easy for me. The photos from my phone take priority over whats on iCloud.
What about this, can you (and sorry, haven't used the desktop thing for iCloud in awhile) use the desktop iCloud program and sync to iCloud direct from your PC?

What a mess Apple created with this update! Why do they always assume this is what the people want? Why is it so difficult to search Photos now and where the **** are my screenshots going? I even choose save to photos and they are not showing up. The Photos app is a headache now along with the password app. Like who thought a separate app for passwords was a good idea?

I’m thinking to moving all my albums to Utiful and breaking free from the Apple Photos mess once and for all!!!!!
Threats to abadon Photos are a bit pointless. Do you think Apple or any of the users here in this forum care which app you decide to use? In fact, Apple will make out better if you decide to go with Utiful and make an in-app purchase. Apple makes nothing from the Photos app. They do, however, get a cut of any purchases made through the App Store.
You can certainly let Apple know your thoughts on the matter here:

I have also stopped using PC's because they were so fragile and fickle . I went to Apple for simplicity and functionality. Does any body think they are reading this thread and give a hoot? I think they have become too big and forgot us little people.

Oh well, maybe Elon will develop a phone and it will just plain work. We can only hope.
You mean like "X" just works? It's still early but that's likely to be the funniest thing I will read today.

find a fixed fast because everyone’s up in arms about the mess you’ve caused thank you
No, "everyone" is not "up in arms." Hyperpole has little place in a technical support forum. Some people are furious. Some people don't like it but will probably adjust becuase their anger isn't getting in the way of them learning new things. Some people really like the change. However, I suspect the vast majority don't care too much one way or the other.
What does "Bimal" mean? And "Rumack?"
This is falling on deaf ears here. Although many may agree with your sentiment , you are preaching to the choir and Apple doesn't look at these threads. I did the same thing and it is useless. Your 81 up-votes are unfortunately also useless except for blowing off smoke and disappointment.

So what is on my mind is this! STOP IT APPLE!! Enough with the ridiculous updates that are useless! Now when I click on a picture to add it to an album, I have to scroll through all my albums to find the album that I want to add the picture to. The albums are NOT in order when you want to add a picture to it. Was this tested before providing the update? Obviously not! Now please provide an update TO FIX IT.

I've used the feedback link to tell Apple how much I like the new iteration of Photos.
I can't say enough bad things about iOS 18 photos. When I try to retrieve albums that I know were there, many of them now aren't and what's worse is the app crashes when I try to type in the name of said album. It's now cluttered and confusing and I can't imagine how they thought this was an improvement you guys really need to do something about this. I was excited to get the new 16 Pro and I wish I'd stayed with my old phone.

Agreed. Why, Apple, would you mess with people’s memories? Having my family folders, kid’s first day at school, now-dead granparents, etc sorted into MY personal folders is infinitely more important than some AI editing. The AI features should be optional. Everyones long-ago created folders of family love and important moments must be considered untouchable. Please fix ASAP!!

I have certainly provided my feedback. Of course, I told them how much I like the update.

I had painstakingly organized my photos into albums; now they’re one continuous mosaic. Bring back the photo albums! This is awful! Who wants to scroll through thousands of photos??
Albums were not removed.
Swipe to the bottom of the screen in Photos. Tap on "Customize & Reorder". Make sure "Albums" is ticked.
I had a weird update with IOS18 this past week. I had an album of my soul dog with 5,000 photos over the past 15 years of her. The photos are still in the photo gallery however my album of her pictures disappeared upon updating. I also ran out of storage space, so I purchased iCloud storage at the same time. I am not sure if it was this update or perhaps iCloud optimizing space but the album is now gone. It makes me sad, because the photos only recognize her face half the time… so when i search for her under Pets, I’m missing so many photos :(
If anyone has experienced a missing album and knows how to get it back I’d love to hear solutions. It took me hours to scroll through my 30,000+ photos to find every single one of hers. The photos themselves are still there… its just the album that seems to have disappeared.
I share photos with family and friends and allow them to add photos, so for example Xmas 2024, getting present opening after Christmas dinner or even New Year celebrations is useless. My wife and I play golf and take swing photos of each other, we put them into a shared folder, if they aren’t displayed in the date/time they were taken then the holes wouldn’t match. Having the photos in the order they are uploaded makes the system useless, Also if I then want to upload photos of my family to my photo stream I would have to spend time adjusting the date/time so they are in the correct position. I have recently started uploading a lot of old Photos to iCloud Photos (currently stored on a local NAS). I’m going to have to rethink this and investigate alternative cloud options. This is the worst upgrade ever and would be the one issue that would stop me using iCloud for photos. Apple get your finger out and leave the date/time alone or at least give us the option to decide for ourselves by having a toggle switch in the photos app setup. Meta data is the life blood of any photo app and stripping it out is a blatant disregard of the users data.
Reverse this mess to iOS17. I’ve lost so many pictures and albums. Unbelievable. iOS18 is the worse update by Apple. Fix it!!!
Click on the word ‘Albums’ & they ALL appear in a list - even those not showing when you go through the images, as shown in this screenshot.
