iOS18.0 Touch ID iPad Air M2 13” very slow

Touch ID response is very slow since I installed iOS18.0.


I did follow the support thread about ‘resetting’ Touch ID, but it’s still very slow.

Scanning a finger takes about 5-10s per scan. Unlocking is the same: 5-10s until either unlock/ time-out or passcode entry.

I had to switch Touch ID completely off for now to make things bearable on iOS18. Had no problems on iOS17. The iPad is brand new, 2 weeks old.


Anyone experience the same? Or do I need to plan a visit to the Genius Bar?

I found a solution to this problem! It seemed that Touch ID was very slow most of the time, often not responding 9 out of 10 times. Later in the office, it worked fine again. But back at home, no luck. It turns out that the Anker 523 twin USB-C adapter I was using was causing the problem.


Unplugging the charger -> Touch ID works 100% and very fast.

Plugging the charger back in -> No luck. Touch ID either doesn’t work or is very slow.


I switched to an original Apple adapter (which ISN’T included in the box!), and everything works fine again.


If you’re experiencing the same issue with Touch ID not responding or responding poorly: unplug all cables and try again!
