Since upgrading to 15.0 (24A335) Pages is no longer opening Word documents.
Upon opening a document, Pages just hangs

You are right about the issue (found it on "Console")
But not the proper way to fix it.
You should try:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
sudo /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -seed -lint -r -f -v -dump -domain local -domain system -domain user -domain network
killall Dock

The file is on my local drive it is a file created by me very uncomplicated no macros of anything like that to speak of.
I recall that the first time i tried to open a docx after installing Mac OS 15 it was blocked by the privacy and security control panel. as the document was created by me I was comfortable to "Allow Anyway" .
Though I have not been able to recreate that behaviour.

If you have access to MS Word or the free LibreOffice¹, I would attempt to open that Word .docx document in either of those and then save it again. Historically, I have encountered a few Word documents that Pages (or Word) would not open but opening in LibreOffice Writer and then saving as Word 2010 - 365 resulted in a document that I could open in either MS Word or Pages. You might give that a try.
¹ LibreOffice 24.8.1 and note that if your MacBook Pro is Apple Silicon, the LibreOffice site gives you a choice of macOS (intel), or macOS (Apple Silicon) downloads just above that yellow Download button.
Single-click any .docx file in the Finder and then press option+cmd+i to open the Get Info window. In the Open With section of that document, set the opening document to "Pages" and then click through the Change All… button so the operating system knows to use Pages as the default opening application. This won't help much if the Word document is damaged (see LibreOffice solution above).
Double-click a Word .docx document and see if Pages opens with a translation progress bar for that document.
You did not mention rebooting the Mac to reconstruct the Launch Services database. That may play a role here.
I have Pages v14.2 here with Sequoia v15 and have no issues whatsoever opening random Word documents (.doc, .docx) created since 2000+. Get the free LibreOffice 24.8.1 and open one of those .docx in LibreOffice Writer and then turn right around and save it as a Word 2010 - 365 docx. Try that updated .docx in Pages. I cannot offer an explanation why Pages won't open a .docx that when renamed to .doc — it opens.
Numbers is not an Excel clone, and if there is too much Excel-only functionality in that document, Numbers will reject opening and translating it. That Excel file may have been corrupted by Skype or Viber too.
As I mentioned earlier in this thread, open the Excel file in the current (24.8.1) LibreOffice Calc and then resave as Excel 2010 - 365.xlsx document. Then try opening that in Numbers. You will need macOS Catalina or later to run that version of LibreOffice.

No, older than that. It is just that Apple's applications will refuse to open Office documents older than the creation date of the year 2000. I have a Word .doc here that was created by Word 6 on a classic macOS in 1995. Pages tells me the document cannot be opened. Word v16.89.1 won't open it either as it throws a dialog stating the file type cannot be opened in this version. But, LibreOffice opens it.
Opening new document in numbers, putting one letter or keeping it empty, exporting to xlsx, and can not be opened by numbers. It is not the file or content it is extension and data type/Kind that make troubles here.
Boot your Mac in Safe Boot mode, and then reboot normally. Also, with Numbers or Pages, press and hold the shift key to prevent the application from loading its last application execution state. This may enable it to get with the program and open compatible Office documents.
If this was an operating system or Pages issue I would have the same problem and do not. Thus, it is something that has touched and corrupted the Word documents that is the source of the problem. Finding that may take some work. People don't seem to believe me that opening and resaving a problematic Word document in LibreOffice won't make a difference… and it may not, but certainly worth the small effort in case it works. It has worked for me in the past when Pages wouldn't open a Word document. It worked even as far back as StarOffice on Solaris.
Yup, everything back to normal. As well as Quicklook. However, I may got a steady result because i deleted Skype before running the commands. And originally suggested commands did not work for me. Only these 3.

My wife and I both updated to Sequoia. I have the current MacBook Pro she has current MacBook Air. She can’t open docx files, but can send them to me and I can open the file. Our computers have the same software and set up. Tried all the robots etc. It is clearly something beyond the usual reboot/etc. Solution.
What worked for me in this end was a clean install... Took forever but worked (made sure to not reinstall skype). Not sure what caused the issue in the first place. Maybe wait until the end of next week for the 18.0.1 update ? Could fix it (or not) ....
This is kinda f*ed up. it is not whether viber/skype is installed or not. it is something else. After log-out log-in in icloud problem (I needed because safari history was not synced) the problem reappeared. Even after enabling icloud documents, the problem reappear again. After running that command, it disables cloud documents. crazy OS. I should have waited for .1 version, as I always do. f*k me.
Since two weeks or so I was not longer able to open word files on my iPhone or my iPad. I do not possess a Mac.
Some nice guy called Minute_Path_4458 on reddit wrote that he recommends to delete the app

I did so and immediately was able to open MS-Word files again. So many thanks for the hint!
Other users write that deleting "Viber" (which I do not have) did the same for them.
Also heard of deleting "Skype" and some other apps.
The problem came up in the moment my iOS/iPadOS devices installed the last "Pages" update some ten or more days ago. Seems that file associations of at least Word (and Excel through "Numbers") get mixed up to the wrong apps and that has as a consequence not being able to open the according files!
I tried, but the solution only works until I reboot: when I reboot, in fact, Pages and Numbers no longer open .docx and .xlxs files. Also, if I apply the solution, System Settings no longer works (at least until I reboot). All these problems arose with the Sequoia update. The fact that Pages and Numbers don't open docx and xlxs documents doesn't interest me much, the main problem is that the quicklook of documents with the space bar no longer works (and if I apply your solution, the quicklook starts working again, but since System Settings doesn't work I have to reboot and then the solution no longer works).
Yup, I found it myself after a while and this solution has few other downsides. I am considering erasing all data and making fresh macOS reinstall, because it is the only solution that works for 100%. It looks like it happens with few people who have been updating their Mac’s for several years.
I had kinda similar issue with one system library after switching to Apple silicon, but I found and replaced the token library. This time it is really strange.
