Finding the source of an image in pages app

I created an image intensive document in pages app. Tried to look up how to find the source of the image. Found no answers.

HERE IS THE SOLUTION!

  1. click on the image
  2. Click on format
  3. select "image"
  4. You will find the name of the image under file info.
  5. Go to finder, type the name and trace the image!
  6. Worked for me!

Pages does not retain the original Finder name of the document's image files but rather renames them as they are added to the document to image1.jpeg, image2.jpeg … imagen.jpeg. inside the document.

Your steps above will only find the numbered image.jpeg file that is inside the Pages document, not elsewhere in the filesystem or as its original name.

If you chose to insert an Image Gallery into your Pages document, then the original image names are shown in the Image Gallery sidebar as a list.

I was looking at an older Pages document with four images in it where each image was image1.jpeg ... image4.jpeg. Uncertain how those images were named that way as it is not something I do before dropping them into Pages. That specific document was created in Pages v12 and edited with nearly every version of Pages since.

I created a new blank document and dragged/dropped an image into it and it retained the original image name, so I stand corrected. You can also in one motion, click on that generic image icon and holding that click, drag and drop that image file elsewhere in the Finder or even into another open Pages document.
