Why doesn't Apple Intelligence work on my iPhone 15 Pro Max?

I have upgraded my iPhone 15 pro max to ios 18 and I can't see Clean-up tools in photos, AI Siri, Genmoji and more... Can someone please tell me how to bring these features?

Hello, everyone.

There is a little bit of confusion surrounding the release of Apple Intelligence. Allow me to explain.

In September, everyone expected Apple Intelligence to roll out with iOS 18. When people updated, they did not see anything new. This is for this reason: the release of Apple Intelligence was delayed. Apple was still working on it and couldn’t get it out in time for iOS 18. As Craig Federighi put it in an interview with the Wall Street Journal: “This is a big lift, and we want to make sure we get it right.”

Then, in October, iOS 18.1 came out with Apple Intelligence. Now, as you may know, whether for ethical reasons or just because, some people hate AI. That’s why Apple made Apple Intelligence optional, and off by default. You actually need to manually enable it in Settings.

Some people that already know that you need to manually enable it and are on iOS 18.1 are still confused. There was no way to turn it on, even in Settings. What they didn’t know is that Apple Intelligence was only available in U.S English (now in localized English in Canada, and some other countries with iOS 18.2) and is only compatible with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, the entire iPhone 16 series, and iPads or Macs with M1 or later. This is due to processing power that Apple Intelligence needs to run.

Also, there is one more thing to be cleared up. Many people that already use Apple Intelligence are confused where some of the advertised features are. The truth is, not all of them are out yet. They will come in a series of “waves.” The first one came out in the beginning of October. The second one was released yesterday (December 11). The third one will be released next year (probably anywhere from late January to early December).

So, as you can see, all of this spreaded like wildfire over social media that “Apple Intelligence doesn’t work and is all a sham,” when really it was just all simple misunderstanding. So next time, if you’re confused, don’t assume things or look for the answers on social media. “Go to the source,” as they say.

Thank you for all your hard work trying to get the truth out. These internet riots can be a hassle for sure. Also, I would love to see this as a tip some day.

Thank you all for reading. I hope this helps!

I answered you in your own thread. Your phone was manufactured for China and until Apple Intelligence is approved for phones made for China, you won't be able to use Apple Intelligence. It has NOTHING to do with the cost of the phone.

Was this purchased from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller?

Turkey has some of the highest taxes on iPhones making them much more expensive than other parts of the world and some choose different channels to avoid the high cost.

China is much more restrictive on what they will import in their country and currently doesn't allow any iPhone manufactured for the region to include AI. Obviously you are not going to be able to simply change the region on the device to get the banned features for a device destined for China. There are no workarounds for the device, and if there were China residents would use a VPN and change the region.

To answer your other question: "DID WE PAY LESS MONEY". It sounds like you did.

You device is supported so it must be the language settings and country that prevents Apple Intellingence from being enabled. Have you read How to get Apple Intelligence? This tells you what to use for language settings. It also tells you which countries are not supported yet. Do you see a setting called Apple Intelligence & Siri? When you go to this setting what text is displayed below the heading like the one below?

It sounds like you’ve updated to iOS 18, but Apple Intelligence features aren’t showing up. There are a few reasons this might be happening:

  1. Region Restrictions: Apple Intelligence features might be limited to certain regions at launch. Double-check if they’re. Change your Apple Account country or region - Apple Support

  1. Language Settings: Make sure your iPhone's language and region settings are set to a supported option (likely US English for now).
  2. Beta vs Public Release: Are you on the iOS 18 Developer Beta or Public Beta? Sometimes, features are rolled out gradually.
  3. Apple ID Requirements: Certain features might require you to be signed in with an Apple ID that meets specific criteria (e.g., region-locked accounts).
  4. Hardware Limitations: While the iPhone 15 Pro Max supports Apple Intelligence, some features may still be limited during early beta stages.

Try checking all these factors, and if everything seems fine, you might need to wait for Apple to enable the features server-side.

I have a iPhone 15 Pro and I updated to iOS 18.1. I cannot find ANY apple AI features at all. No revamped Siri, no photo smart eraser, no text summaries, nothing. This seems like 18.0 exactly to me. It said it successfully installed 18.1... but I get nothing. Help???
  • What is the Model number at Settings > General > About > Model Number?
  • Do you have the device set to US English?

Change the language on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

  • Do you have the Siri language set to US English?
