After editing photos on Mac Sonoma mainly to lighten, they revert to the original dark mode when attached to an email, causing the recipients to have problems either reading or printing out if need be. How can I rectify this please ?

Just tried and the edited image is sent from inside Photos.
Make sure to use APFS or MacOS Extended volume to store the Photos library. Maybe some 3rd party virus app is interfering or some "cleaner" app has corrupted the system.
If that doesn't do it, use "Photos > File > Export > Export photo" to the Desktop and verify it is the edited version before sending.
Can you please tell us, how you have attached the photos to an email, when sending the edited version? It would be good to know for similar cases. Have you been using Apple' Mail.app or a different app? Have you been sending by sharing from Photos or have you used to photo browser in Mail to select and attach the photo?
Edited pics were attachments from Photos file. They did stay edited up to a point but would attach darker to the emails. I have now tried previous suggestion above and saved to desktop and it works fine. Thanks.
