I was exporting a 500 mb video and had it repeatedly hang up. Following advice I gleaned here, I cleared preferences and have lost the entire project and multiple other videos. All that remains in my library is a two year old video. Am I not looking in the right place?

Deleting preferences does not cause any loss of data.
You need to look in the library in which your projects were created.
