Devices not charging after updates

I updated two older(2018) MacBook Airs and an older (2020) iPad, and immediately after

updating them, all three devices have trouble charging. They won't

charge until I plug and unplug over and over. I'm suspicious b/c it's

sudden - immediately following updates - and it's effecting three

devices, but not my newer (2023) MacBook Air. It's also happened with

other apple devices in the past the same way. Is this part of Apple's programmed obsolescence?

Any thoughts or suggestions? There is nothing wrong with these devices and I don't want to buy new ones!

It's highly unlikely that it's due to the software updates. If it were, there would be thousands of complaints. And it would be extremely unlikely that an OS update problem would affect multiple devices of different types. None of my devices have any problems charging with the most recent operating system updates (or in fact any previous update).

There appears, though, that there is some common factor, unless it's just a really odd coincidence, so we need to try and identify any such commonality. Are you connecting the chargers for these devices all to the same AC circuit? If so, are they all plugged into the same surge protector or outlet? And are you using Apple-branded chargers, or some third-party chargers and if so which brands?

Trying to identify the source of this problem is going to be difficult to do remotely, but perhaps we can point in a possible direction.

Thanks for the response varjak paw-

The devices are all charging on the Apple chargers that came with them. Two devices are charging at one house but on different outlets, the other device is at a different house 300 miles away.

I've had this happen many times with devices that are more than a few years old, and it's frustrating because I have 3-4 MacBooks at a time, as well as my tablet and phone. I can hear the chargers snap into place on the MacBook Airs, so it isn't that they aren't making contact. I cleaned the connections on the ipad charger with a q-tip and a little rubbing alcohol (let it dry of course), but it made no difference.

Very odd. At one time not that long ago I was responsible for supporting literally dozens of Mac devices and I never had one fail to charge, and certainly not after a software update, so I'm pretty confident in saying this is not endemic and absolutely not due to any "planned obsolence" on Apple's part. But I'm at a loss to explain the problems you've been having. If it were at just a single location I'd suspect AC power issues, but at two different locations that seems unlikely, though I can't absolutely rule it out. The only other dim possibility I can think of would be if the power bricks are in a tight location or on a surface where they might possibly be overheating in which case they'll turn themselves off.

Perhaps someone else here will be able to offer some thoughts.
