iPod with Dock Connector (Model A1040): How to erase?

I have an iPod with Dock Connector (Model A1040) and its cable. Unfortunately the cable requires a Mac with FireWire -- my Mac Studio does not have FireWire.

I understand I must connect the iPod to Mac in order to erase it and prepare it for recycling etc.

How do I connect it to Mac Studio? What specific adapter do I need?

Thank you!

If your iPod has a Firewire connection, that suggests that it is a very old iPod, in which case it will only have music on it, but no personal information. So there is no absolute need to erase it before recycling it.

Erasing an IPod is more important for the iPod Touch, which is likely to have personal information such as email addresses, account information for apps including sign-in credentials etc.
