Macpro 2013 - an impossible reboot?

I've owned and a work a Mac since 1986, and have never done this. This morning I came to work and tried to wake my Mac - no response - two black screens. Did a manual restart.. still nothing. Did a manual shutdown, unplugged the power cord. Restarted - and nearly instantly back to the desktop - and all my apps (mainly Adobe), all my files, all my tabs in Chrome - everything was already open and no error about a bad shutdown or we need to recover files.

How is this possible? I'm still on Monterey OS. I've never done a reboot and had all my apps and files open just like I left them two days ago.

It's difficult to say what might have happened. It could have been a power surge/drop, some sort of static shock (if your office is cleaned by a cleaning service, carpet machinery can generate quite a bit of static, and if they plug into the same outlet as your Mac, a big power surge), or just a random glitch. I've had my Macs over the years occasionally relaunch all the open apps even without any sort of dialog. I'd suggest that unless the problem occurs again that you just chalk it up to "one of those things".
