Can't login to iTunes on iMac running Mavericks.

Will iTunes no longer log me in on this older release?

I can login to iCloud with the same userID and password, but iTunes says my userID & password are incorrect.

Does this have to do with 2 factor authentication, which came out later than Mavericks? Mavericks doesn't generate an authentication code, so not sure what to do.

I still have an old iPod that can only sync on this Mavericks iMac. My car will not work with my newer iPhone and doesn't have a powerful enough connection to charge any device newer than this iPod, so I still use it for loading music on that device to play in my car.

Is there a solution or workaround?

It would be appreciated, if there is.

Thanks.

I have the same issue on my 2009 Macbook Pro 13'. It's because Apple recently stopped supporting the majority of Apple ID features on macOS versions prior to El Capitan (the maximum that can be supported on most older macs natively) as the software is aging and it might just be too much of a hassle for them to contiune supporting older versions.

You may want to check out the App Store to see if you can get any updates for iTunes as the version on my Macbook Pro works fine with my Apple ID.

Another suggestion would be to check which version of Mavericks you're on.

Step 1: In the top left corner of your screen, click the Apple Menu (small Apple logo)

Step 2: Click on the option "About this Mac"

Step 3: Find the version below the large bold text "OS X", the number should be something like "10.9.2" or "10.9.5".

10.9.5 is the latest version of Mavericks available, though if you're on an older version, I can show you how to update if needed!
