When watching live video or replays on NFL app the pause button won’t go away and the screen is dim. I have updated the app, deleted it, reinstalled it, and the problem won’t go away

I had this issue and got beyond annoyed, the I clicked the X in the top right corner thinking I was closing the stream and it actually just closed the stop and settings buttons and fixed the issue.

Look the NFL app is just crap. This problem has been ongoing for years and the NFL has no desire to fix it. You can do all the restarts that you want but the problem recurs. There's not enough revenue in the app for them to care. It is intermittent and irritating. It's not the users fault. I have a new maxed out MacBook Pro and a 800+ mps wifi connection and the problem persists.
That would appear to be a problem with that app itself. Does your iPad meet the minimum system requirements as given for the app in the App Store? If so, have you contacted whatever support resources the NFL may provide?

Thank you for suggesting the fix. The NFL App has very non-standard behavior. The controls should disappear after a set time. The X is supposed to signify closing the whole video window.
