garageband registry error comes back after trashing app, library files and re-installing. 3 times

Garageband (version 11.0.1) was working on my iMac running Sonoma 14.6.1 and I created a few songs. However, after closing and quitting, a few days later GarageBand would not load. I tried various ways to uninstall it, restart the iMac and install a new version from the App Store. After opening it, it hung again while trying to load Audio plug-ins and reported registry error. I haven't installed any special plug-ins.

I have repeated the process of cleaning out garageband from my library and re-installing at least 4 times with one success - it worked for about an hour, but when I quit GarageBand and tried to reopen it, it hung again with the same problem.

Any ideas what to do?
