Horizontal Lines on Screen of iMac, 24", 2021

Yip, my screen gave up about a month ago… not going to spend the ridiculous amount of money the Genius Bar asked to fix it, so today I bought a butt ugly LG monitor instead and I’m placing it in front of the iMac which is now essentially nothing but some kind of deformed MacMini.

Hello everyone,

I’m adding my voice to the growing number of iMac M1 owners experiencing persistent horizontal lines across the display.

• My iMac is the 24-inch M1 (2021).
• The lines appeared suddenly and are worsening over time.
• When I connect to an external monitor, the issue does not appear, which suggests it’s a built-in display hardware fault and not a GPU/software issue.
• The lines do not appear when taking a screenshot, which suggest according to the apple advisor on the chat that it is a hardware and not a software issue
• I’ve seen many others here and on Reddit/MacRumors describing the exact same problem, often 1.5–2 years after purchase.

This seems to be a widespread defect, not accidental damage. It would be great if Apple could officially acknowledge this and provide support—whether through a repair program or extended coverage.

Has anyone here successfully escalated this with Apple Support and received a repair (in or out of warranty)? If so, could you share how you approached it?

Thanks for any advice, and I hope Apple is listening to the many of us dealing with the same display failure.

Exactly the same issue happened starting yesterday, been talking to Apple support and kept asked me to bring it over to Genius Bar

I'm experiencing the exact same issue on my iMac, which I bought in 2021. The lines started appearing just a few days ago.

Identical problem here. 24" M1 iMac is 3 years & 2 months old (so, just outside warranty period).

Going to call Apple today.

Unfortunately this is happening to my iMac as of this morning.

please explain with model you have and date of purchase.. we can make an idea in which Mac can happened this tragic bug... thanks any detail is useful to understand

Today got significantly worse, now it's alternating black lines almost up the whole bottom third of the screen!

It needs to be replaced. At this time Apple has not announced a recall or offered to fix them for free.

I have had no problem with my M1, 16GB, 512GB iMac. My vote FYI.

Having the same issues on iMac. Disappointed b/c this is my personal computer.
