Shortcut hangs when adding row to Numbers spreadsheet

Ugh!

I use a Numbers spreadsheet to keep a detailed log of everything I'm working on with my creative projects, and I use the Shortcuts app to streamline adding data to the spreadsheet.

Software:

  • Sonoma 14.6.1
  • Numbers version 14.1 (7040.0.73)
  • Shortcuts version 7.0 (2607.1)

I first encountered this issue about a month ago running Sonoma 14.6 — which persists in 14.6.1 — where my shortcuts sometimes hang on the Add Row action. My shortcuts are fairly complicated, so I assumed there was something in my If actions/conditions that was triggering the issue, but I've just started from scratch with a new shortcut, and after encountering a similar issue, I think I've isolated the issue to the Numbers app not liking the colon ":" at the end of the output of one of my cells (for the record, the output is "Re:", if anyone's curious why it ends with a colon).

In every case, if I remove the colon, or if I add text after the colon (including a blank space, which is my current workaround), it adds the row without hanging. But if the colon is the end of the text string, it hangs.

I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue?

Probably a super niche issue, but still. Figured I'd ask.

I hadn't thought to try that!

So, I tried it just now, and the result?

It didn't hang — it added the row instantly.

Unfortunately for me, it did include the "\" in the output — which isn't ideal for my purposes.

At the very least, I feel like this confirms that Numbers is being finicky about the colon for some reason.
