Contacts/ Related Names Synched with Errors

Most use Related Names to help Siri with family names that Siri does no "hear" correctly.

I always used Related Names with Contact of friends, as well as business partners to remember their Relatives. Problem is, at of lately starting at about iOS 15 we are encountering a known issue with Apple Contacts, particularly with the "Related Names" feature. Many users have reported problems when trying to enter or sync related names across their devices, especially between iPhone and Mac/iCloud. The related names might appear correctly on the iPhone but disappear or not sync properly on other devices like the Mac or iCloud.

Or you enter Related Names properly in your iPhone, but when you edit the name in iCloud all Related Names will just disappear.

This issue can be due to several factors:

  1. iCloud sometimes struggles to sync specific fields correctly between devices. This can lead to the loss of data such as related names.
  2. This bug in the version of iOS or macOS is know, but has not been fixed evne in iOS 17.
  3. iChanges made to a contact on one device might not properly sync to another, especially if the data format differs slightly.

Potential Solutions I have played with:

  • Making sure my devices are running the latest version of their respective operating systems (iOS, macOS) and are synched on the same network.
  • I tried re-entering the related names on one device and see if they sync correctly after updating. In my case I am forced to enter on the iPhone and they synch, but when I edit a contact in IC;oud all related names of the contact diappar.
  • On both my iPhone and Mac I have turned off iCloud Contacts, waited a few minutes, and then turn it back on. This reset the syncing process, but has not fixed the issue discussed her.
  • Since it has become an issue, I am using another custom field to store related names until the issue is resolved.

If the problem persists, it might be worth contacting Apple Support and request a fix, especially since it is a known bug that they need to address. The more calls to them the better.

I have this problem as well. I don't use Siri, but of course, still need absolute syncing between devices.

I've just tested making new cards in 1) iCloud 2) MacBook Pro 3) iPhone. The cards sync with only the top name, all other fields blank. I will try to add related names as a next test.

Apple should have the identical input fields on all devices, including lists. It seems that the Contacts app could use a very big overhaul, including the search engine within the program.

The related names fields are very important to sync, I usually make "custom" names. At the very least this should be fixed, especially when important info is needed on the fly.
