Sneaky charge for gift card with education discount

I just purchased a macbook air with the education discount for $1799( which is only $-150 off regular price of $1949). It advertises this price PLUS a $200 gift card. I was then charged $200 for a gift card and then given a $200 gift card so that is no savings at all. Terrible invoicing seems to be purposefully confusing to make you think you got more discounts that you do.

This is common place. If you look at your invoice, you should be invoiced the education price less the gift card value. In your example, you should have been invoiced $1599 for your device, and $200 for the gift card, making the gift card effectively free. This is done to prevent fraud where someone would purchase the device, get the gift card, spend the value of the gift card, and then return the device for a refund.
