I am unable to print from my iPhone and iPad after iOS 17.6 update

After updating my iPhone and iPad to iOS 17.6, I can’t print from these devices anymore. After I select the printer, it says no printer selected; and the printer is connected to the wireless. I know my printer works because I am able to print from my HP computer. How do I fix this issue?

Do you have any security Apps (such as Norton) or VPN installed on your iPad? If so, these may be interfering with your iPad's internal routing table - and may interfere with AirPrint/AirPlay/WiFi Hotspot or other Apple services. If present, it may be necessary to temporarily remove such Apps from your iPad - and then perform a forced-restart.

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

  • On an iPad with Face ID: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

I had to disconnect/switch off my Norton VPN for my iPhone to attach to my printer.
It always saw the printer as an option but wouldn't attach until my VPN was diconnected.

Correct. While the VPN connection is active, unless your VPN client is configured to permit split tunnelling, all network traffic from your iPad will be directed to the VPN connection. As such you will not be able to access any resources or devices on your local network, such as a printer, until the VPN connection is disabled.
