Iphone out of date error while pairing with apple watch

Hi, I just got older apple watch 7 and I am not able to pair it with my iphone 15 pro. It keeps telling me that the iphone is out of date even though my iphone is updated to latest ios. Please any suggestions. I am really frustrated.
