You can update an iPhone 7 to the latest release of iOS 15. You can't update it to iOS 16 or later. To make UPI payments, you will need a newer iPhone that can run iOS 17 or iOS 18.

Thank NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) for this. They and the banks make rules that UPI payment app vendors must follow.

Yes, I believe that payment apps do now require iOS 17 or later if you want to make UPI payments.

That will not magically give an iPhone 7 the ability to run iOS 17. If you need to run iOS 17 or later, you need to go out and buy a newer phone.

UPI payment apps require ios 17. You need an iPhone XR or newer to use them
