How to fix Apple Watch series 9 ECG recognition issue?

I've had a Series 9 for only about a month. I could do ECGs in the past but now it does not recognize when I put my finger on the crown. I know how to do it correctly because it worked in the past. The crown works for other apps. I have tried a forced restart but nothing has worked. I see there are several other threads on this exact topic over several years with no solutions. Has this been fixed yet? This feature is part of the reason I got an Apple Watch. Any help appreciated.
