Home app hijacks the Music app

Hi, I'm trying to understand how the Home app works when it comes to playing music. I airplay from the Music app to my Homepod Mini, and it works great until I cannot cannot connect. It won't connect because the Home app has started playing music through the mini. This would be okay if there was some of control over selecting the music, but there isn't. Just seems to play random music and give you no way to select. Very strange. Is there any way to turn this off so that I can just airplay from the Music app uninterrupted?
