Countdown stops when sharing a file from iMovie

On my iMac I have a movie that I edited and shared to file previously in March 24. I went in and edited it again yesterday from the original file, today when I try to share it to file the countdown circle stops when only part way through, see picture.

I have tried sharing to my desktop, two different 1TB external drives and to iCloud. No way to get it to work.

I wonder if there is any way to save the edited file so that I can transfer it to my laptop then delete iMovie and download iMovie again?

If I were to delete iMovie I am thinking that my movies in iMovie would then be lost?

iMovie has worked perfectly up until today where it won't shut down, I have to use Force Quit, sometimes it is not even attempting to share, when I click the share arrow it is doing nothing.

Hi,

Sometimes with updates iMovie preferences can get corrupted. Try deleting/resetting preferences and see if that resolves it.

To delete/reset preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if the share function works properly. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project. Deleting and updating iMovie will not cause loss of you projects because the projects are stored in the iMovie library outside of the iMovie app. Do not delete the iMovie library. Before deleting the iMovie app it is best to put in in the trash, but do not empty the trash until the update has been successfully completed. That way if there is some problem with the update you can drag the iMovie app out of the trash and repace it in your Applications folder.

Another thing you can try is to Edit/Select All, Edit/Copy, and then Edit/Paste the project’s time line media into the timeline of a newly created project. Your edits will carry over. Then try to export from the new project.
