Grey horizontal borders show up

Hi, my Macbook Pro suddenly show grey horizontal borders.

It happens almost any time. Few disappear. Idk the difference between they come up or don't.

I tried to reset NVRAM(PRAM)also SMC. Even tried turning up as safe boot, which failed to solve this problem.

My Macbook Pro is.

  • 13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports
  • 2.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5

MacBook Pro 13″

You are welcome.

Change the Resolution:

Perhaps you intermittently changed the screen's resolution? So, try other resolutions, seeing if you get this issue. If that does not work, then it is time to get this serviced: Change your Mac Display’s Resolution - Apple Support

Getting this Serviced:

A. Your Screen is Failing:

I have come across this on my 2017 MacThe connector between the LogicBoard and the screen was loose, and I had to send it in for service 11 times. Being during COVID, I had to send this in. Today, the option to take this in for service is an option. So take this in for service, ASAP.

B. So, Get this Mac Serviced...

Contact Apple, and setup a Genius Bar Appointment or see an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your local area.

A. Contact Apple:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there as Necessary
  • NOTE: Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, calls are taking a bit linger to get through. And, that makes sense, because many are at home working out-of-the-house or are taking classes over-the-web, this they have more time on their hands to contact Apple Support. So, it might take a bit to get through to Apple Support. But, just stay on the line, and someone will be with you.

Or...

B. Contact an AASP:

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the Mac

Thank you for the photo.

Troubleshooting a Mac with Vertical Lines:

A. Single-Out this Screen:

Connect to our Mac to an external monitor, and then see if you still get this error. If so, then it is a software issue. If not, then it is a hardware issue.

B. Single-Out this User:

Create a new Administrator Account and then log into it. If you get the error, then if an issue with the entire macOS. If not, then it is a misconfiguration within your entire macOS.

I do not see it in your screen shot...do you?

Screen shots come direct from the GPU.

Horizontal lines would point to GPU /screen buffer /display-generator failing.

If you display is showing faults— take it in let Apple tell you what is wrong.
