Apple Books Keeps Deleting My Books

How do I prevent the Books apps from deleting (moving to the cloud) copies of my books? This is extremely frustrating as I find myself on a plane or a boat or somewhere without Internet access and my books miraculously deleted. It's not a storage saving issue because my books take up less than a GB and I've got hundreds of GB of free space. I don't see an option in settings to prevent books from being deleted. Is there a workaround to this bug?

I've solved the problem so just wanted to include the solution here in case anyone's Google search leads them to this thread. The fix is easy: Delete the Books.app and download the Kindle app instead. Put your epubs in the Kindle app and buy your books through Kindle/Amazon as well. The Kindle app does everything Books.app does except randomly delete your saved books. 👍
