Mini internal mic

I think I have gathered there is no internal mic on a Mini, M1 chip.

Is this correct?

I want to do some screen recording with audio, i.e. grab vid from websites, not my entire screen.

Is this possible with 3rd party apps?

Quicktime, I believe, needs an internal mic to record with audio, ergo: using QT on my Mini is not an option.

Can someone confirm or deny if a 3rd party app will record with audio please. If you have a rec I'd appricate it. Does not need to be high quality nor any major editing. Editing will be little to none.

Is there a way to attach a mic so Quicktime would be a viable option.

TIA for any suggestions or direction.

Cheers to all, j-

if you want to record the sound and video of your screen, you don't need a mic. and actually, to use a mic to record the sound coming from your speakers will give you less than ideal sound anyways. and ambient noise also factors into that as well.

to record the mac's internal sound with quicktime (or also “shift-command-5”) you need additional software. i use the free BlackHole Virtual Audio Driver. then you can choose "BlackHole 2ch" in the recording options instead of "Built-in Microphone."

you will also need to set up a multi-output device in your audio MIDI setup utility to be able to both hear and record the internal audio at the same time.

to set up a multi-output device:

Open Audio MIDI Setup: (found in /Applications/Utilities)

hit the '+' button in the bottom left corner and select "Create Multi Output Device"

then in the panel that appears on the right, in the Multi-Output Device tab, select "Built-in Output" AND "BlackHole 2ch". (and, if you want, any of your other connected devices.)

once you do that, (and BEFORE recording) you can choose "BlackHole 2ch" or "Multi-Output Device" in your menubar "sound options".

to both hear the speakers and record the audio at the same time, choose "Multi-Output Device". before choosing multi-out, set the internal speakers' volume to a comfortable level first. you cannot control the volume once you are in multi-out mode.

Thank you soooo much for this tutorial!

As a Gen X'er I think I'm above avg regarding tech, but some things I just cant figure out. This one had me baffled. I kept seeing the vids saying I needed to select a different mic with QT but my mic options were greyed.

Thank you for your help, your time is greatly appreciate.
