Cropping options on iMovie….?
Dear Apple,
Congratulations on designing iMovie as if the world still exclusively watches movies in landscape mode! It’s 2024, and apparently, iMovie still believes that 90% of us don’t shoot videos vertically on our phones. Clearly, the memo about TikTok, Instagram, and the vertical video revolution got lost in Cupertino.
Why is it that when I try to edit my revolutionary vertical videos, iMovie decides to crop them into awkward horizontal frames, as if it’s punishing me for not adhering to some 20th-century cinematic dogma? “Fit,” “Crop to Fill,” and “Ken Burns” options are all great… if you live in 1999.
So here’s a suggestion: how about an update that embraces the 21st century? Maybe an option that says, “Hey, we get it, people hold their phones vertically.” Just a thought. Until then, I guess I’ll keep rotating my videos in and out of iMovie like a rotisserie chicken.
P.S. Apple, please don’t make my phone and computer melt while I’m using it Because this comment is contentious.
