I was 3 minutes or so into a project and using Ken Burns effect of many pictures. I also have video clips, music, titles and narration in the project.
Around this point, while trying to add a Ken Burns effect to a picture, the start, finish boxes appeared but I could not manipulate either box, nor continue.
After a restart, my project will play but any attempt to add pictures and the effect had the same result.
iMac (M1, 2021)
Have you tried Luis' suggestion to disable 3 finger dragging in System Settings?
I'm as puzzled as you!
Just out of curiosity, have you tried moving the "End" rectangle as well as the "Start"?

Sometimes a specific project can develop a glitch that doesn't appear in other projects. Try creating a new project and see if iMovie works properly there.

this suggestion worked out for me, however for a few moments-edits.
Ken Burns froze iMovie while trying to edit the start of the effect.
I have tried starting new projects (same issue) and created a new user and tried new project...same result.
If I disable 3 finger drag, how do I move objects? I just have a track pad?
Thanks for your input, I hadn't used iMovie after that update until now, perhaps connected alright?
Please note! I didn’t mean to disable the trackpad. Yes, you can use a mouse but you should also be able to use the trackpad, just so long as you deactivate three finger dragging, as explained above.
Sometimes glitches reside in the strangest places.
