Unable to access Presenter View when projecting my slideshow in Keynote

I have viewed several other articles that have had the same issue. None of the proposed solutions have resulted in me achieving the main show on the main screen and presenter view on my MacBook Pro.

I am using Mac OS Monterey 12.7.4 and Keynote 13.1. The projector is an Acer, a make I can't remember having used before.

I have turned off mirroring and when selecting the MacBook I have three options as shown

When I select the projector I have also got three options as shown.

The result is that whatever the combination of selections, I either have the Slideshow on both screens or the Presenter view on both screens or one of the screens shows either of those while the other screen shows what appears to be a blank desktop; a blank desktop with no icons at all and which I am not able to access.

I must be doing something wrong or not making a necessary setting. Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't think it matters.

In Keynote itself, when presenting on a system with two screens, it generally defaults to the external screen as the presentation screen, and the internal screen as the presenter's screen.

However, you can toggle this within Keynote itself. On your presenter's screen, move the mouse to the top-right corner and these icons should appear:

The highlighted icon toggles the presenter and presentation screen.

Note, also, that you can customize the Presenter's screen (check Play -> Customize Presenter Display)- if the only thing that's enabled is the Current Slide then it would look just like the presentation screen - this is the only thing I can think of that would cause the both screens to look alike.
