iMovie update 10.4.1 freezes at crop selection

So this is what worked. All I had to do was shut off the 'Tap to Click' feature and no cropping issues with I-Movie and it doesn't freeze up.

I'm having the same issue! Annoying!

iMovie seems to not working with three finger drag.

If deleting preferences did not solve it, try creating a new project and see if that works.

Another thing you can try is to boot up in Safe Mode and, after everything loads, immediately shut down and reboot in normal mode. Then see if iMovie works properly.

Disable 3 finger drag in System Settings or use a mouse.

Both the above methods should get around the apparent bug until it is fixed.

Your Library is usually found in the Movies folder.

Double-click it and it will load into iMovie.

Interesting. There is no such folder titled “iMovie Projects” in iMovie 10. There is such a folder in iMovie 9.

That is weird.

I only dabble with iMovie so I know only the basics but in my Movies folder I have just 3 folders connected with iMovie.

The one on the left has just 3 projects from December last year and the one on the far right has a dozen or so projects dated this month.

I recently updated iMovie to the latest version, so has the Library icon changed and any project I have worked on recently has been transferred to the new Library?

Sometimes with updates iMovie preferences can get corrupted. Try deleting/resetting preferences and see if that resolves it.

To delete/reset preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete

preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if the freezing problem with the crop tool is resolved. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

Having the same issue(s) with iMovie. Another problem that I was having was that I could no longer tap and drag. I had to change my accessibility settings and that fixed it. But did not fix issues with iMovie.

Un saluto a tutti, nono solo problemi con il ritaglio, anche l'audio ha grossi problemi, dopo un minuto di video l'audio va ad intermittenza e si blocca continuamente, il pc lavora tanto da bloccarsi, prima dell aggiornamento mai successo. Questa volta apple ha fatto una bella gaffe.

Aggiorno, dopo fatto l'ultimo aggiornamento oltre al problema del ritaglio ( problemi con il trackpad) imovie mi blocca il pc, la cpu lavora al 98-99% e non riesce nemmeno a leggere il file video e relativo audio, mi sa che se non

risolvono il problema imovie è inutilizzabile.

Called Apple today about the I-movie freezing issues and inability to crop video and the agent who was very helpful ran my laptop through some possible fixes (gave him access to screen and we documented the issues, even made a video of my screen while I showed the issues with I-movie). We are awaiting a response from the higher up people in apple to give us a diagnosis of the issue. But in the meantime, a work-around is to log out of your mac and log back in as a different user (we created another user profile) and YAY, you can use imovie without it freezing up and you are able to crop video too. If anyone tries this, please let me know if it worked for you. It is a pain to have to change profiles but at least it works.

Has anyone DELETED THE PREFERENCES as Rich suggested? We are not talking about deleting the app.

This is one of the first things you should try when I movie starts behaving strangely.

Additionally has anyone tried disabling 3 finger drag or changed to a mouse?
