Garageband - I want to use the AU Plugins

While I have used GarageBand for a while, I am just now starting to reach out and expand my knowledge of recording. I am running Sonoma 14.5 and GarageBand 10.4.11.

I have looked at videos of how to use the AU plugins that are in GarageBand. They always show clicking on the plugins button and getting a list of all the available plugins. On my screen when I click on plugins, it doesn't provide a list, but rather blue Compressor and Channel EQ buttons that only allow you to change the settings for the standard compressor product. So maybe something isn't installed? I have sort of hit a wall so I'm reaching out to see if there is something I need to do so that the plugins show up on the plugin button.

Also, I have the "enable Audio Units" box ticked in settings.

Here is what I see when I click on Plugins:

When I click on Compressor, I get this, which seems to be the settings that drive the normal GB compressor.

So as you see, I don't get the list that the videos show.

Thank you for your consideration in this problem! Any help is appreciated.

New Audio Tracks come with only the two Audio Units, you are seeing. When you add a different patch from the Instrument Library and change the track to a vocal track or a piano track or similar, you will see a different set of initially applied Audio Units.

To add even more Audio Units to an audio track click and hold on an empty brick in the list of Audio Units. Now you should be seeing an up and down arrow pair . It should bring up a contextual menu with the list of all available Audio Units that are installed, like this:

Have you tried it this way?
