Keyboard keys typing incorrect characters

Mac Pro 6,1 running Monterey. On one of my keyboards (Azio MGK1), every character I type is shifted up by 7. If I press a I get h, b gets i, 1 is 9. When I press / the machine sees it as an invalid key. If I connect a different keyboard, that one works fine, even if the Azio keyboard is stll connected. The Azio works perfectly when connected to a PC. I checked input sources and it only shows ABC.

Rebooting the machine did not help.

if it works perfectly when connected to another computer, that sure is wonky.

I have encountered one case that produced wrong characters. It was when too much power was being drawn by a USB device (self-powered printer) on the same USB Bus that SHOULD NOT have been drawing substantial power. I demonstrated experimentally that it drew enough to throw off character codes, and a credit-card number I was trying to enter on the the numeric keypad had wrong digits -- again and again.

My take-away from that experience is that regardless of what is reported in System Report, you MUST keep keyboard cables SHORT, and the only other device that can be supported at the same time on the same USB Bus is a low-power mouse.
