Lost contacts after updating IOS 17.5.1

After updating to IOS 17.5.1 I have lost several contacts. People saved as favorites came up with just their phone number. I contacted both my local service provider and Apple Support. Although backed up to the cloud the last back up retrievable was 3 days after I updated the system. I had to painstakingly go through txt messages to try to identify contacts. Not sure how many are still lost.

I have had the exact same problem and it happened right after update. I go to my previous text messages and instead of a name there is just a phone number. Then I go to my contacts and look that person up by name and they are no longer there. I have to figure out who it was and re-add their contact information. This is not just a coincidence like the gentleman is implying below. It was a marked issue that happened right after my updating to 17.5.1.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution! Please look in the right direction.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.
