Macbook Air M3 screen stays black when laptop lid is opened

Upon opening the laptop lid, instead of the screen waking up, it remains black. Pressing any key makes no difference. The only way to get it to wake up is to hold down the power button and restart it. Is this a known issue? I saw an old post reporting this same problem with an M1 MacBook Air (although the M1 MacBook Air I had previously never displayed this behavior). I ran Apple Diagnostics and it reports no issues. Please advise - TIA.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 14.4

If you have two external monitors connected to the M3 MacBook Air, you might try disconnecting one of them before opening the lid. The M3 MacBook Air can only drive two external monitors when the lid is closed, and it does so by redirecting hardware resources that would normally support the built-in screen.

If you're seeing this with only one external monitor connected, or no external monitors connected, I don't know what the problem might be.
