Camera mic works but mix on audio recordings/ whatsapp or phone calls.

iPhone 8 mic works in Camera, not in Voice Memos or Phone It's puzzling to me how sound comes through just fine when I'm recording a video but I can't be heard on Phone calls (either with Phone or WhatsApp). Trying Voice Memos results either in a series of clicks or just a background hum. Has anyone else been able to resolve a situation like this on their own? Thanks in advance for any insights. P.S. The support page called If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working - Apple Support is useless so please don't recommend it.
