It seems something is wrong with the formatting of the clip…the title is clipped on either side, so the title doesn’t appear in full. tried to reset, but it reverts back to an iPhone looking vertical size. I need it to be horizontal

Can you post a screen shot? Which title are you using?
Meanwhile, try deleting/resetting preferences. To delete/reset preferences, open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes. Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

On my Mac the title displays fully.
Did you try deleting preferences, per my previous post?
I deleting preferences does not work, try creating a new project and see if that cures it.
