iMac Pro connect to AV receiver

I’m trying to connect my iMac Pro to an Onyx 676 receiver. I am using a USB C to HDMI cable from Amazon. A couple of questions. Does the iMac output surround sound (I’m trying to mix with Dolby Atmos) through the USB C port? Should I invest £75 in the APPLE USB-C to HDMI Digital AV Multi-port Adapter? Anyone with any advice or information I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Hi, HalfCut333, yes your iMacPro ( and most Macs) will output surround sound thru either an optical port ( if it has one) or HDMI/USB/UsB-c…. This link may help: Set up external speakers for stereo or surround sound in Audio MIDI Setup on Mac - Apple Support (CA)

apps that support surround sound include VLC and Apple’s dvd player… it’s said that the model A-2119 version of this adapter does support surround sound and there’s a Belkin adapter that does as well

hope this helps
