macos 14.4.1 usb-c hdmi display not working after update

I have a MacBook Air M1 connected to a USB-C powered hub. Have been using it with an external USB-C powered HDMI portable display for years. The display started flickering after the 14.4 update. After upgrade to 14.4.1 today (2024.03.25), the display goes into power saving mode all the time. MacOS "sees" the external display. But, the display itself shows nothing - It displays "No signal"

Same here on 2023 MBP 16". But it's not even detecting the usb-c external display in MacOS. Only HDMI is working after the 14.4.1 update.

Since 14.4.1, usb c monitor and the port has become very unreliable.

It works for a while and drops the connection. I've had to reboot the monitor and Mac a few times now.

Mac stops charging via the usb c monitor cable and it wasn't charging even after connecting a separate adapter. Eventually had to reboot the Mac. Usually I don't reboot Mac for a long time (weeks or sometimes months) and it's generally for an update. But I've already rebooted it a few times now since 14.4.1 update.
