Navigation buttons on my SONY TV Remote do not work within Apple TV app after updating my Apple TV to tvOS 17.4

I've had this Sony TV for a couple years at least - thru several Apple TV Software Updates anyway - never had any problem with the Sony TV Remote Or Apple TV remote (Apple TV 4K) Navigating within Apple TV App.

Just upgraded to 17.4 a couple days ago [from Version 17.3...something] - since the upgrade the four navigation buttons on SONY Remote (up,down, left, right) do not work within the Apple TV app - they do work when "Input source" is TV as well as working fine within several other apps on the Sony TV.

Although I can use the Apple TV Remote to navigate, others in the family find it convenient to use the Sony Remote when navigating within Apple TV.

I would appreciate any insight into what is going on. Is it a glitch of 17.4 or is there some other reason the Sony Remote just stopped navigating at the same time as installing 17.4. Thanks

Many people having this issue across a wide variety of TV Brands. Looks to be a tvOS 17.4 bug. Probably just have to wait for Apple to fix.

One person claimed to resolve it by resetting the Apple TV to defaults, but I am not willing to try that right now.

slothybiggunz keep in mind we're talking about HDMI control of the Apple TV (aka HDMI CEC) through the TV. Your TV remote sends it's commends to the TV which sends them on to Apple TV over the HDMI wire.

If you "learn" your remote to work an Apple TV then it might actually just be beaming Infrared Signals directly to the Apple equipment which isn't the same. My Apple hardware is hidden behind my TV so IR signals don't work for me even if my remote could be learned to send them.

I have found this issue as well. I “relearned” the remote but now when using the remote outside of the ATV and I hit the “back” button, it turns on the ATV and everything then links to it.
