How to free up disk space for macOS Monterey update on MacBook Pro

Hi, trying to update my Mac (MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)) to macOS Monterey 12.7.4 but the updater keeps saying there isn't enough disk space. It says it needs 16.14gb, but my drive has 45gb available!

Any ideas what's up?

The installer needs room to uncompress the 12.7.4 installer, additional temporary storage during the installation, and any additional storage consumed above the current installation. Thus, it will need more than that 16 GB and it has calculated that your 45 GB remains insufficient. Free up another 20 GB for a safety margin.
