SMS not working between iPhone and Android phone

Strange one...

  • I have iPhone, he is on Samsung
  • Neither of us have blocked the other
  • We have both deleted each others vCard/contacts, rebooted and hand typed in our phone numbers. We have taken off Wi-Fi and doesn't work on Cellular.
  • We have never had a problem before. It kicked in yesterday.
  • I can send he and his wife (who does have an iPhone) a group text which they receive but their replies do not come back to me. The wife and I can text back and forth without issue.
  • We can call each other without problem.
  • I am starting conversations from my phone number and I have deleted previous text thread.
  • What's App works. When I asked Siri to text him (or the number when I deleted) it first asked if I wanted to use Messages or WhatsApp. That has Never Happened before. Weird. The second time it told me that the other guy does not have messages set up on WhatsApp.

INSIGHTS?????

When encountering an issue where SMS messages to a specific contact, particularly on a Samsung device, are not working despite various troubleshooting attempts, here are some insights and additional steps you can consider to address this peculiar situation:

1. Check Contact Details:

   - Confirm that the contact details for the Samsung user are accurate and correctly saved in your contacts.

2. Confirm Messaging Service:

   - Since you can communicate with the person's wife and other contacts without issue, it's possible that the SMS problem is specific to your interaction with this particular Samsung user.

3. Network Provider Check:

   - Reach out to your network provider to ensure there are no service disruptions or issues that could be affecting SMS delivery to this specific contact.

4. iMessage Compatibility:

   - If the other party previously used an iPhone, ensure that their phone number is deregistered from iMessage to prevent any potential message routing issues. You can visit Apple's support page for deregistering iMessage numbers.

5. Samsung Message Settings:

   - Have the Samsung user check their message settings to ensure there are no blocks or filters affecting messages received from your number.

6. Cross-Platform Messaging Apps:

   - Since WhatsApp works between you and the Samsung user, consider using alternative cross-platform messaging apps like WhatsApp or Signal for communication until the SMS issue is resolved.

7. Reset Network Settings:

   - On your iPhone, you can reset network settings by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This can sometimes resolve communication issues related to network configurations.

8. Apple Support:

   - If the problem persists despite trying these troubleshooting steps, reaching out to Apple Support can provide you with more tailored assistance and potential solutions for ensuring smooth communication with the Samsung user. Officiële Apple Support

By examining these possibilities and steps, you can hopefully shed some light on the SMS communication problem with the Samsung user and work towards resolving the issue for seamless messaging between your devices.

I appreciate the thorough response but these steps don't really do it. I need to go outside the box more. However, to respond to these steps...

1. Check Contact Details: Done

2. Confirm Messaging Service: correct, non-issue

3. Network Provider Check: as stated, he sends and receives text and phone messages with other iPhone and Samsung users.

4. iMessage Compatibility: as stated, he sends and receives text and phone messages with other iPhone and Samsung users without issue.

5. Samsung Message Settings: done and, as stated, he sends and receives text and phone messages with other iPhone and Samsung users without issue.

6. Cross-Platform Messaging Apps: we are doing that but that isn't the point of this question.

7. Reset Network Settings: as stated, this occurs with both of us whether either of us on network or on cellular

8. Apple Support: Katana-San below pointed out your link is in another language. Nonetheless, I haven't been able to find assistance via Apple which is why I am asking in this group

UPDATE/SOLVED....I was now not getting verification codes. (nothing more frustrating than calling verizon about not getting verification codes and they keep sending you verification codes so to proceed).

Not sure if they 'reset the tower for me,' but we did Settings>General>(Reset?)>Network Only

I thought Network only was for wifi but it also resets the Verizon 'network.'

Seems to be doing the trick so far (30 min in).

Hello~ The information that they posted is from AI so no wonder it didn’t work. Have you removed the contact and added it back? Do you have Focus enabled? Have you and your friend ever been able to send messages normally. What model iPhone and version of iOS? Here are the links to contact Apple…
