how to update an older MacBook Pro (late 2013) from Mac OS 11.7 to 12?

In order to run turbo tax 2023, I need to upgrade my MacBook Pro (late 2013) to Mac OS 12 or later. it is currently on 11.7.4. this is not showing as an option for me on software update. how can I do this?

You seem to be facing either switching to the Online version of Turbo tax, or

using different tax software, or

buying a newer computer just to do your taxes online. -OR-


the federal government has said they are making more filing options available to low-needs users:


Do your taxes online for free with an IRS Free File trusted partner.


If your adjusted gross income (AGI) was $79,000 or less, review each trusted partner’s offer to make sure you qualify. Some offers include a free state tax return.

Use the Find Your Trusted Partner(s) to narrow your list of trusted partners or the Browse All Trusted Partners page to see a full list of trusted partners. After selecting one of the IRS Free File offers, you will leave the IRS.gov website. but that only works if your need are simple.
